Westleigh is calling on young people who dream of stepping onto the construction industry ladder to discover the fantastic apprenticeship schemes it has to offer.
Throughout National Apprenticeship Week, which runs from Monday 5th to Friday 9th March, the leading developer is promoting its bricklaying and joinery apprenticeship schemes for 2018.
The programme, which takes up to three years to complete, will see trainees split their time between studying in college and getting hands-on experience at one of Westleigh’s construction developments across the Midlands or beyond.
In addition, each apprentice is assigned an on-site mentor who will provide them with practical training and a Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) Apprenticeship Officer to guide them through the scheme.
Some of Westleigh’s longest-serving senior staff members first started their careers as apprentices with the housebuilder, including Dave Thacker, Director of Westframe, the company’s timberframe manufacturing division.
He said: “Completing an apprenticeship is a fantastic way to lay the foundations for a long and exciting career working in the construction industry.
“Whether you want to focus on trade specialism or if you’d like to progress into a management role, the possibilities really are boundless, and not only that, it’s a really great way to make new friends and gain some invaluable work experience building new homes for the benefit of people in your local community.

In 2017, Westleigh took on 17 apprentices at its development sites under the guidance of the firm’s construction experts.
Trainee joiner Luke Spencer, 19, who studies at Leicester College, was among the 2017 intake of apprentices.
“I’d looked at other trades but joinery really sparked my interest and I knew it was what I wanted to do.
“My brother works as a trainee Site Manager for Westleigh, so I think that played a part in choosing to do my apprenticeship here. He encouraged me to apply for it to see if it was for me.
“My first impression of Westleigh is that it’s a great company to work for that looks after its staff really well. I’m really enjoying myself and am looking forward to learning new skills.”
Applicants for this year’s intake are required to have GCSEs in both Maths and English at grade C or above, as well as a passion and commitment for pursuing a career in construction.

Interviews will be held in March and April and successful applicants will begin their careers with Westleigh in September 2018.
