Beginning his career as an apprentice at Leicester salon George’s Hairdressing, Chris Appleton works with some of the world’s most famous names. Having worked with likes of Katy Perry, Rita Ora, Jennifer Lopez and Kim Kardashian, it looks like George’s is the go-to salon for an exceptional career. Recently, Chris helped his daughter Kitty-Blu, 13, to have her first taste of being a model by inviting her out to a shoot he was working on.
The modelling profession has been something that has interested Kitty for some time. Currently living in Leicester, Kitty flew out to New York with her mother to work with Chris on a shoot for popular international fashion magazine, Cosmopolitan. It was here that they worked together on a video for an online article promoting Colour Wow’s new humidity proofing product, ‘Dream Coat’.
Kitty’s first taste of modelling saw her have her make-up professionally applied before Chris styled her hair for a video explaining how to re-create three of music star Ariana Grande’s most iconic hairstyles, with the protection of Dream Coat. As Ariana Grande’s hair stylist, Chris is well-placed to demonstrate these looks with Kitty, a big fan of Ariana Grande herself.
After the shoot, Kitty said: “I really loved working with my dad! It was a lot of hard work and a lot to take in but it gave me a really good idea about what models have to do on each shoot. I loved having my picture taken by the professional photographers too – my cheeks hurt from having to smile all the time but it was a great experience.”
Working together on a professional photoshoot was a significant and special moment for both Kitty and Chris. Knowing how passionate Kitty is about getting into the modelling industry, Chris was keen to help her in any way he could.
“I was desperate to make this shoot happen and help Kitty take her first steps into modelling,” Chris explained. “She was a true professional and took to being a model really easily. It was a proud moment for me and I really hope that we’ll have the chance to work together again on future shoots.”
Chris’s career has seen him go from graduating as an apprentice at the George’s Granby Street salon in June 2000, to working in Hollywood for the past two years. As well as working with big celebrity names, Chris also has the opportunity to work with some of the most current products in hairstyling, such as the new Colour Wow product ‘Dream Coat’ used in the shoot with his daughter.
The experience with her dad did not put Kitty off and if it yields a positive response, she will consider modelling as a career option.
