Leicester Hospitality Entrepreneur Releases First Book

Five years after Black Iron’s very successful launch, Kiran and his former Head Chef Mike Francis have worked together to publish ‘Black Iron’ the cookbook.

Leicester hospitality entrepreneur Kiran Parmar is bringing out an exciting new book! Inspired by the steakhouses of New York, Kiran opened his first restaurant, Black Iron, at Winstanley House. The historic venue for events and hotel stays is set within picturesque Leicestershire parkland.

Now five years later since it launched, Kiran is working with his former Head Chef, now Managing Director, Mike Francis on a cookbook which they have written, illustrated and published together. The finished product has taken them six months to write although Mike says “it’s taken us years to perfect the recipes inside”.

They have cleverly blended their greatest recipe hits with guests’ journeys and the restoration of Winstanley House itself in this book.

‘Black Iron’ is much more than just a book full of recipes.

Kiran explains, “This whole project, right from the restoration of Winstanley House through to creating the concept for Black Iron, bringing that into reality and then deciding to write a book about it has been utterly incredible, and one I certainly will never forget! Guests often ask our team for the recipe of a specific dish, or how a particular taste or texture was achieved, so this cookbook seemed the perfect response to share Black Iron’s secrets.”

“As we’ve done with Winstanley House and Black Iron, I wanted to do something completely different that really does showcase our offering and the care and attention that runs through everything we do”

“Aside from the recipes, we’ve also shared our story, from finding the derelict property, working hard to restore it to its former glory, to finally opening its doors in 2017. As we’ve done with Winstanley House and Black Iron, I wanted to do something completely different that really does showcase our offering and the care and attention that runs through everything we do. I hope it inspires guests and other readers to have a go themselves and reinvent the taste of Black Iron at home”.

‘Black Iron’ is due to be published this November (2022) in hardback.  It’s available for purchase from Away With Media as well as from Winstanley House and sister venue, The City Rooms.  It costs £30 plus delivery and pre-order is now available.
