The founder of a Leicestershire based charity, Alex’s Wish, that helps boys born with the rare, life-limiting Duchenne condition is taking to the skies in a daredevil wing walk designed to raise awareness and funds to battle this disease.
The daredevil team at Leicestershire charity, Alex’s Wish, will be facing their fears to undertake a wing walk challenge at Wickenby Aerodrome, Lincolnshire on 18th August. Led by charity founder, Emma Hallam (pictured above, right), and trustee turned wing-woman, Glynis Wright MBE, they will be strapped to the wings of a plane (pictured) and take to the skies to raise money for their homegrown charity.
“The only thing that would make me so crazy as to do a wing walk is that I am raising money for Alex’s Wish where every penny will go towards finding a cure for Duchenne. What’s 30 minutes of abject terror compared to helping to save boy’s lives who are living with this awful disease. If you are reading this, please donate. Every penny counts….,” Glynis Wright MBE, explains.
Alex’s Wish is an award-winning charity based in the heart of the East Midlands. Raising funds and awareness to conquer an aggressive, fatal muscle wasting disease called Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) which affects 1 in every 3,500 boys born. Every single week, two families receive the same devastating news that Charity Founder, Emma Hallam did when her son Alex was diagnosed back in 2010. Having realised not enough funding was going into conquering Duchenne, Alex’s Wish was established in 2012 with a mission to eradicate the disease.
With no cure at present, and limited treatment options available in the UK to help slow down muscle wasting; Alex’s Wish is helping to drive transformative change and help re-write the history books of this disease.
Emma said “Taking part in challenges is incredibly important to me, one they make me feel alive – doing something that takes you out of your comfort zone is great for your wellbeing. Two, we are so super appreciative of our supporters taking part in our challenge events – I want to join them and be part of the team making memories together. I’ve completed two sky dives, a 3-peak challenge, a zipwire challenge, cycled London to Paris, completed the Ride London 100-mile bike ride, done a loop to the loop challenge – so this seems a natural next step and really looking forward to it!!”
“We’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone taking part with me – and wish them the very best of luck!” You can sponsor the team by visiting www.justgiving.com/campaign/alexswish-wingwalk24
