Make a Date with Leicester this Mother’s Day

Leicester City Council has launched a special Mother’s Day campaign to encourage people to treat their Mums – or the mother figures in their life – with a special experience in the city to show how much they care.

As part of the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) Welcome Back campaign, “Make a Date with Leicester” encourages people to spend quality time with their Mum this Mothering Sunday by ‘making a date’ and enjoying all the fantastic things on offer throughout the city centre.

Whether that’s a beautiful gift from one of the city’s independent retailers, taking the whole family out for a special day together, Sunday Lunch, fine dining, or even treating Mum to some quality time alone to pamper herself – whatever her preference, Leicester’s businesses will have the perfect way to show how grateful you are for all she does.

A new landing page on the Visit Leicester website will guide visitors through a choice of great activities depending on how they want to treat their Mum. There are suggestions for a range of interests and family dynamics as well as events, shopping tips and deals, showcasing just how much local businesses in Leicester have to offer this Mother’s Day.

The campaign, which will be running across social media in the run-up to Sunday 27 March, will sit alongside a fantastic competition giving away over £1,000 worth of prizes for a number of lucky winners to experience with their Mum. Two headline winners will win an overnight stay in the city: one winner will be able to treat their mum to a stay at The Gresham Aparthotel, a top-to-toe massage to help her unwind at Femi Health & Beauty and dinner Buenos Aires style at Sonrisa; and a second winner will enjoy a stay at Novotel Hotel after a pampering day at Ungaro Hair and the Beauty Box, and then enjoy a Cocktail Masterclass at Manhattan 34.

Individual winners will claim more prizes, including experiences for the whole family to enjoy together, like a trip to see LCFC Women in action, a screening at Phoenix cinema and a meal at Pho. Other highlights are tickets to see Akram Khan’s Jungle Book at Curve, vouchers for Argento Jewellery, personal styling and afternoon tea at John Lewis Leicester, silver-plated earrings from Set, an Intro Pass to Hot Pod Yoga and a voucher for Desi Street Food.

Sarah Harrison, City Centre Director at Leicester City Council, said, “Mother’s Day is all about showing the important women in our lives how grateful we are for their help and support – whether that’s mum, grandma, a step-mum, foster carer, or any strong maternal figure that has helped shape us. We are lucky that Leicester is full of wonderful businesses that can help when it comes to showing our gratitude. Find quirky gifts from independent retailers, celebrate with delicious food and drinks, have a relaxing pamper day or try a new activity.

“The incredible range of prizes available to win shows just how much there is to do and enjoy in the city, so Make a Date with Mum in Leicester and enjoy some quality time together this Mother’s Day.”
