MORE DETAILS RELEASED FOR LEICESTER’S DESIGN SEASON

More details have been released about this year’s Leicester’s Design Season, the events third year celebrating success and growth of the sector and curated by LCB Depot alongside a network of key local designers and design businesses.

As you would expect, this year DS3 will largely take place digitally through a series of online workshops, talks and business or designer led discussions, but as well as the online events, DS3 will also be hosting three city centre exhibitions. Loop and The Unloved have come together to curate a public-facing exhibition, featuring design and illustration work from freelance designers, creative companies and students. This will be viewable from outside The Unloved’s offices on Charles Street.

Over at LCB Depot visitors will also be able to enjoy ArtChannel, a multi-screen video installation that will be showcasing the latest digital art and design from both here in Leicestershire and further afield. The Design Showcase Exhibition will also be live at LCB Depot, featuring work from Architecture, Graphic Design, Illustration, Product and Furniture Design, Interactive Design, Fashion and Craft. All of these live exhibitions will run from 12 – 30 October.

Other key event highlights of the season include the return of the Open Brand Collaboration, which invites designers, students and the general public to use their creative flair to help develop the DS brand identity.

Love Architecture will also return with a series of 7 events for professionals, students and families. Highlights include Founder and Chair of the Architects’ Mental Wellbeing Forum, Ben Channon, leading a session on improving mental health in the professions (Happy By Design, Wednesday 21 October) and RIBA London Director, Dan Sian, as she discusses diversity in the architecture industry, her experiences, and the work she is doing to encourage change within the RIBA and the profession.

As part of DS3, LCB Depot will also be launching LCB TV, offering you a unique opportunity to hear more from key people in the local design and business community. Highlights include:

  • 14th October – If you’ve enjoyed the interactive Street Stories trail across Leicester City Centre, there’s also an opportunity to hear from creators Graff.io and Arch Creative via LCB Depot, as they discuss the design led augmented reality experience that has been so popular in Leicester during recent weeks.
  • 19th October – Digital agency, Effect, profile their outreach work, which has seen them help War Child raise money to protect vulnerable children affected by Coronavirus.
  • 27th October – Leicester’s Haley Sharpe Design Team who will be presenting their recent project on the Grand Egyptian Museum in Cairo, talking about the processes and lessons learned from the largest cultural interiors project on the planet.

LCB Depot Workspace Manager, James Burkmar, commented, “DS3 has seen us work closely with businesses across the city to really make this a season for both the industry and the public, to help strengthen and build relationships. Leicester is a quiet giant in the design world, but it’s time for us to start shouting a little louder.”
