High Sheriff of Leicestershire Ian Mattioli MBE, commits to raising £30,000 for local charities, launching his campaign on Sunday 18th of July by setting off on his bike from Leicester to cycle up to Spey Bay in Scotland.
Ian took up his post as High Sheriff of Leicestershire in March, and despite the complex set of circumstances caused by the pandemic, he will launch his campaign to raise £30,000 for five charities across the County on Sunday 18th July.
Ian, who has been training hard, will cycle from his home city of Leicester to Spey Bay, which is sixty miles north of Aberdeen, a journey in excess of 300 miles. He will be joined on the first day by his wife Clare, with whom he founded the Ian & Clare Mattioli Charitable Trust in 2016. The Trust has agreed to match pound for pound all donations up to the target of £30,000.
The ultimate aim of the ride and Ian’s other fundraising events throughout the year, is to raise £30,000 for five very worthy local charities: Warning Zone, LOROS, Rainbows, CKI School of Martial Arts and Aylestone Park Football Club.
Despite the challenges of the covid-19 pandemic, Ian has risen to the challenge of raising this money and the bike ride is the first of his fund raising activities.
Ian Mattioli MBE said: “It was a great honour to be appointed High Sheriff of Leicestershire, and continue the fund raising activities undertaken by my predecessors for the place I love and call ‘home’. Helping those around me has always been a key part of my life and when covid-19 challenged us all, I looked for ways I could fundraise without relying on everyone being in a room together. I’ve always enjoyed cycling so combining this with my love of Scotland and in particular, Spey Bay, a favourite fishing spot, means I will enjoy the ride!
“Normally I would not ask for outside support, and while I am relying on generosity of spirit and financial donations to help me reach my target, Clare and I, through our Charitable Trust, will match pound for pound all donations up to £30,000. If we are lucky enough to raise more than £30,000, we will broaden the number of charities we donate to, both locally and nationally.” he added.
Ian expects to complete his journey towards the end of the week and will meet up with Bob Woods, friend and co-founder of Mattioli Woods in Spey Bey, no doubt this will involve a much deserved wee dram of whisky.
