The inaugural Leicester Restaurant Week is taking place this week, from Monday 18 – Saturday 24 October, and with 30 different venues taking part across Leicester there’s plenty of choice for even the fussiest of eaters!
We were lucky enough to visit Orton’s Brasserie to sample one of the many special deals they will be running as part of their Leicester Restaurant Week offer.
The team at Orton’s obviously took the brief seriously when they were asked to take part in the event, coming up with no less than six different special offers, showcasing a dish off their menu each night of the week – each paired with the perfect drink.
It all kicks off on Tuesday with their Beer and The Burger night. The Orton’s Burger is a beef brisket and rump burger topped with smoked bacon, Sparkenhoe Red Leicester cheese and home-made burger sauce, paired perfectly with a pint of the Goose Island Midway Session IPA – a classic combo!
Wednesday offers something special for the Vegan (and vegan curious) – go along to Cauliflower Steak Night for a sweet and smoky spiced cauliflower steak, that goes fantastically with an elegant and crisp Santiago Sauvignon Blanc served alongside it.
Later in the week you can sample a sumptuous sous-vide spiced Monkfish paired with a glass of Rioja Blanco (Thursday), take your Friday Night fish and chips up a level for Orton’s adaptation of this British classic served with a pint of ABK Hell Lager, or indulge in the subtle smoke and succulent textures of Orton’s special cut of venison, served with an Argentinian Malbec (Saturday).
But there really is no better way to end the week than with a long and lazy Sunday brunch, and this is what we headed to Orton’s to taste! On Sunday 24th, you can end Leicester Restaurant Week in style, pairing either the Big Joe’s breakfast or a Gardener’s breakfast (vg) paired with what Orton’s claim to be the finest Bloody Mary this side of the Atlantic!
We went with the Gardener’s breakfast, pulled in by the bubble and squeak which did not disappoint; crispy on the outside but light and perfectly seasoned inside, it was the perfect accompaniment to a well-balanced veggie brunch including smashed avocado, roasted tomato, mushroom and homemade baked beans. Meat eaters can choose the Big Joes Breakfast, which includes a bacon chop, sausage patty, black pudding, and hash brown as well as the grilled mushroom and baked beans.
Now onto the serious business – Orton’s name their Bloody Mary the Bloody Hell Mary and after one sip we understood why! I couldn’t get much out of them on their ‘chefs secret recipe’ that goes into making this brunch classic, other than the addition of their homemade beetroot and rhubarb puree. It adds a delicious tang to the drink, which is beautifully presented with a variety of garnishes that makes your brunch feel like the extravagant experience it should be!
These offers are exclusive to Leicester Restaurant Week, so if your mouth is watering at the thought you need to be quick and book in – it’s now or never!
