1573 Bar & Grill is housed in one of Leicester’s oldest stone-built buildings dating back to 1573. It sits in the heart of the Highcross food quarter and has proved itself one of the city’s finest independent restaurants and grill houses with a red-hot reputation.
This historic boutique restaurant has garnered multiple awards and accolades, including winners of Taste of England ‘Best Casual Dining Experience’ in the Leicestershire Tourism Awards 2022 and Trip Advisor’s ‘Traveller’s Choice Award 2023’ since it was taken on in 2009 by independent hospitality specialists, SRK Hospitality. Whilst steeped in four century-old history, this former Old (Free) Grammar School Grade II listed building has a keen eye on the here and now and proudly sources ingredients for its much-loved menu locally, wherever possible with many dishes also reflecting the changing seasons.
1573 is renowned for, among other things, sensational steaks (The 1573 Steak Experience); grilled, flavoursome fish (From The Land & Sea) and delicious vegetarian dishes (From The Garden) lovingly created by their in-house team of talented chefs, many of whom were classically trained at some of the finest restaurants across the country.
Stand-out dishes on the lunch and evening menus – and customer favourites – include the 1573 Mixed Grill with Cajun Prawns; T-Bone Steak; Pan Roasted Salmon and, of course, the Sunday Roast with all the trimmings.
