Althorp, one of England’s most beautiful stately homes, has announced two exciting events to take place this summer: Althorp Craft Fair on Friday 9th August – Sunday 11th August and Althorp Children’s Week on Saturday 24th August – Friday 30th August.
Althorp’s House Opening season offers a unique opportunity to discover Althorp’s quintessentially British heritage, with the stunning House and Park open for public viewing from 1st July – 31st August. This year’s House Opening season also sees the unveiling of Althorp’s newest exhibition, Animals of Althorp. This intriguing exhibition presents a new and unique opportunity to discover the never-previously-told story of Althorp’s many animals and the undeniable mark they left upon the House’s history with a fascinating display of paintings and artefacts.
One of the highlights of House Opening season, Althorp Children’s Week, will be a fun-filled event where children of all ages can discover the fascinating characters behind Althorp’s remarkable history and take part in an exciting array of games, interactive workshops and activities to entertain the whole family. On each day, children with an accompanying adult can enjoy a tour around Althorp House, led by one of Althorp’s captivating guides dressed in period costume. On the tour, children can explore the many state rooms of the House and play spot-the-animals as part of the Animals of Althorp exhibition. Outside, there are a selection of garden games available, along with a special display by Redwings Horse Sanctuary where they will be showing children about equestrian care with their incredible life-sized model horse. On the Stable’s Portico, there will be a different activity to take part in every day, from dragon-making and Medieval dress-up to castle building and Roman history! The front of the House is a perfect spot for fun and photo opportunities, with sweet stalls giving all the atmosphere of the fairground. The House’s designated outdoor picnic area is perfect for lunchtime, set against the stunning backdrop of Althorp’s picturesque grounds.
The second event to take place during Althorp’s 2019 House Opening season is one for craft lovers. Althorp Craft Fair is set to be a glorious long weekend packed with activities, shopping opportunities and delicious food and drink in the Althorp Café. Visitors can learn a number of impressive new techniques at the Stables Courtyard with one-hour craft workshops led by an expert crafter. A new skill will be taught each day including luxury candle-making and flower arranging with Althorp’s personal florist, scheduled at 12:30 pm, 2 pm and 3:30 pm. There will also be a selection of original and quality stalls offering a chance to buy and be inspired by some of the best crafters in Northamptonshire and beyond. Workshop details are to be announced soon, so craft-lovers are encouraged to check spencerofalthorp.com for more details.
Entry to all events is included in the price of a standard Adult or Family Day House Entry ticket, which can be purchased now from www.spencerofalthorp.com. Craft Fair Workshops must be booked in advance.
