Following its growing success over the last four years, the popular Belgrade Mela returns for summer 2018 with another vibrant celebration of South Asian culture and cuisine.
Running from 12-5pm on Saturday 21 July, this free event offers something for all ages, with everything from dancing and drums to kids’ crafts and chai in another jam-packed programme of hands-on family fun.
Expect a mix of familiar features and brand new activities for 2018, with opportunities to make some noise with Dhol drums, pick up some moves in our fun-fuelled Bollywood and Fusion dance workshops, or learn a few words in a new language. As ever, there’ll also be a range of stalls to browse and pick up some unique purchases.
This year’s event will also include the chance to explore a new exhibition presented by Warwick University on the theme of Colonial Hangover. Accompanying the exhibition will be a special talk, involving elements of spoken word poetry.
Feeling hungry? Don’t miss out on fantastic food and drink available at the Belgrade Theatre café, including a brand new Afternoon Chai offering. This delicious desi twist on a traditional afternoon tea brings together Eastern and Western elements, with a menu combining cake and sandwiches with samosas, pakoras, bhajis and chai.
