World Record Attempt Congas In To Coventry

The ‘Coventry Conga’ aims to create the world’s most diverse Conga line, with the current record being achieved on 26th January 2019 in Los Angeles, California, where fifty nationalities took part.

Joining forces with BBC Coventry and Warwickshire, Coventry’s CUSU and Coventry College, the BID team are looking to smash that total by adding another ten nationalities to the line. The event begins in Broadgate at 9pm and organisers are asking participants to bring along passports to confirm their nationality.

Trish Willetts, Coventry BID Director, said: “Coventry is such a diverse city, and this is a great opportunity to unite and celebrate the many cultures and nationalities that live within it. We hope that the ‘Coventry Conga’ will not only be a fun event, but a record-breaking one too!”

The event is preceded by the return of Coventry’s Student Shopping Night, running between 6pm and 9pm. The evening will be filled with exclusive discounts, live DJs, entertainment and prize giveaways.

With thousands of students set to hit the city, the night is in collaboration with West Orchards Shopping Centre, Lower Precinct Shopping Centre, Coventry University Students’ Union and Coventry City of Culture Trust.

Trish adds: “The student shopping night gives us an opportunity to showcase the brilliant businesses we have here in the city to both new and returning students.

“Last year, the event attracted 7,000 students into the city and we’re so excited for it to return in 2019. Having the record attempt run alongside it just adds to all the fun and entertainment we have planned!”
