New tapas and wine bar brings a taste of the Med to the Royal Town’s Restaurant Quarter

A new restaurant, Migas Tapas and Wine Bar, is set to bring a taste of the Mediterranean to Sutton Coldfield’s Restaurant Quarter, it has been announced.

Boasting traditional decoration and a warm Spanish welcome, the venue is expected to open its doors to the public later this summer in the former Don Diego Tapas Bar unit next to ASK.

The new addition will see the return of Don Diego’s previous owners, who ran the restaurant from 2012 to 2015 and achieved Michelin Guide listed status – the same team behind Edgbaston’s popular eatery, El Borracho De Oro.

Named after the Spanish for ‘breadcrumbs,’ Migas will offer diners a varied menu of authentic, home-cooked dishes, including the famous Andalusian tapas dish from which it got its name, as well as an extensive list of quality wines and sangria.

With an already vibrant food scene, Sutton Coldfield’s ever-expanding Restaurant Quarter has recently welcomed several new additions, including Bodega Bar and Cantina, Earth’s Kitchen, Sangria, and the Craft Inn, as well as the overwhelming success of its first Food Festival held in June.

Mike Bushell, Sutton Coldfield Town Centre BID manager, said: “We are delighted to welcome Migas Tapas and Wine Bar, which will undoubtedly be another fantastic addition to the Restaurant Quarter. Its sister venue, El Borracho De Oro, is already extremely popular and well known across Birmingham for its authentic tapas, and we are certain Migas will be a huge hit with locals.

“Following several wonderful new openings in recent months, Sutton Coldfield is fast becoming known as the place to dine among foodies, and we are very much looking forward to sampling some Spanish delights at Migas Tapas and Wine Bar when it opens this summer,” he added.

Emma Yufera, owner of Migas Tapas and Wine Bar, said: “I am thrilled to announce that we will be opening Migas Tapas and Wine Bar in Sutton Coldfield. Despite having previously owned Don Diego Tapas Bar, Migas will be an entirely new concept, with new dishes, new wines, and a new feel – but always with our authentic and traditional spin. The venue will have a relaxed, warm ambience, with focus on good, honest home-cooked food and breaking bread with friends and family.

“El Borracho de Oro will continue to trade as normal, and we look forward to running the two venues alongside one another in a complimentary way. I am incredibly excited to be returning to Sutton Coldfield, and hope Migas will further add to the fabulous foodie scene here.”

Migas Tapas and Wine Bar is currently recruiting for six full time positions across kitchen and front of house, as well as a handful of part time roles. Prospective candidates should send an application to [email protected].
