Tropea Featured in Michelin Guide & Good Food Guide

Tropea

Birmingham’s local ‘Italian neighbourhood restaurant’ scoops the listings during an exciting time for the city’s hospitality scene

Tropea, located in Harborne, Birmingham, has been featured in both the Michelin Guide and Good Food Guide.

Ben Robinson Young and Kasia Piatkowska’s creation came to them when they met whilst studying Culinary Arts at the University College Birmingham back in 2010. Inspired by a picturesque town on the Calabrian coast, Tropea sits in the leafy Birmingham suburb of Harborne.

Tropea’s menu is heavily influenced by food sold on the streets of Italy. Serving up small plates designed to share, including snacks, fresh pastas, seafood and regional specialities reflecting fresh produce.

The Michelin Guide describes Tropea as ‘a bright, modern neighbourhood restaurant serving flavourful, fuss-free Italian sharing plates’. They recommend sampling the homemade pasta dishes on offer, describing them as a ‘highlight’, and praised the restaurant’s list of Italian wines. The guide also notes Tropea’s ‘buzzing atmosphere and friendly service’.

The Good Food Guide describes Tropea as ‘a fantastic neighbourhood independent that is well worth seeking out’. They commend Robinson-Young and his team for running the front of house with ‘natural, relaxed skill’, and Piatkowska for her ‘interesting and authentic’ menu of regional specialities.
