Review: Sixes Social Cricket Leicester

Leicester became the fourth city to welcome the popular cricket, dining and bar concept, Sixes Social Cricket, which opened just before Christmas. We were invited along to try and were bowled over by how much fun we had! Read all about our experience below…

Where is Sixes Social Cricket Leicester?

Located in the Cultural Quarter, the brightly coloured façade has brought a welcome splash of colour to the large corner unit, and the full size is revealed when you step inside – as well as cricket nets around the venue, there is a large bar and plenty of seating area to enjoy food and drink.

Do you need to be good at cricket?

Upon arrival, we were taken over to our net by the friendly staff who set up our experience. After insisting we needed to be on beginner level it was time to step up to bat!

First thing is first, you don’t need to be able to play cricket to have fun at sixes! There are several options you can select, which controls how fast the ball is ‘bowled’ at you. As you get used to the process you can increase the level so you are being challenged, and if you have prior experience you can even go up to ‘word-class’… safe to say we didn’t get there!

The aim of the game is to hit the ball at different targets in the nets that are worth different amounts of points. You go into the nets one at a time and are facing a huge screen which shows a bowler running at you – not as scary as it sound! The is actually ‘bowled’ from a machine that’s lined up with the bowlers hand, so it’s as close to playing cricket as a non-sporty person can get.

We had so much fun! Half an hour in the nets flew by, with us facing 10 overs (an over = 6 balls) each, and our scores updated on an electronic score board. Once we got into the swing of things our competitive side got the best of us and there were more than a few wild lunges when attempting to hit sixes!

Food & Drink

After working up an appetite, we were led to a dining area with a huge colourful bar and booth areas. The menu features pizza’s – margherita, salami, nduja, vegetarian and vegan – and burgers served with skinny fries. We went for an nduja pizza, and cheeseburger loaded fries… they were delicious!

Overall, we had a fantastic night and will definitely be heading back. It’s a great date activity but we think it would be even better with a group. Head online to book your net at https://sixescricket.com/location/leicester

*We were gifted a night out at sixes in exchange for an honest review.
