The Wizard of Oz has finally made it to Curve’s main stage following a Pandemic postponement and this bright and breezy production of this classic tale has been worth the wait!

Directed by Curve’s Nikolai Foster

…audiences are taken on a journey through classic Americana with flying monkeys transported by motorbikes and the iconic Route 66 standing in for the yellow brick road in Colin Richmond’s dynamic set combined with Douglas O’Connell’s jaw-dropping projected animation.

Dorothy, played with feist and sass by the angelically voiced Georgina Onuorah, is joined on her journey to Oz by a show-stealing scarecrow, Jonny Fines, a suitably soppy cowardly lion, and a slightly sinister Tin Man who made up for his lack of heart with an abundance of menace.

Witches, both good and bad…

…are played with aplomb by Christian Bianco as Glinda and on press night Ellie Mitchell as an impressive cover for Wicked Witch of the West.  Other cast highlights include Ben Thompson who plays scruffy Schnauzer, Toto, to great effect.

With all of the iconic songs from the movie including Ding Dong the Witch is Dead, The Merry Old Land of Oz, and, of course, Over the Rainbow, Curve’s Wizard of Oz is a festive treat that all the family is sure to enjoy and one not to miss this Christmas.

The Wizard of Oz will be at Curve until the 8th of January.
