Summer is here and festivals are finally back after two years of cancellations due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Help your clients to celebrate in style by getting them glam with the hottest trends in festival hair and make-up. Here’s how to create four key festival looks for summer 2022.
Neon
No-make-up looks and subtle hues are officially out, and neon is in! After two years of staying indoors, working from home, and cancelled social plans, people are ready to get out there and they want to be seen! Splashes of neon are a fun way to add drama to hair and make-up, and with vibrant eyeshadows and nails showcased at fashion week it looks to be one of this year’s brightest trends.
For clients who are tempted but wary of going all the way with dying their hair such a striking shade, you can add neon streaks using semi-permanent hair colour to give their locks a temporary lift that can be easily toned down following the festival. In a similar way, use neon makeup to create accents within the overall look – a pop of colour around the eye, either in a bold shadow or an unusual liner, is the way to go. Nail artists can use neon nail polish to tie this sunny look together.
‘90s Throwback
The ‘90s are back and in a way that is hard to ignore. These in-your-face throwback looks are all about sparkling and will be blindingly obvious under the light of the sun. Forget make-up – this look calls for strategically-placed facial jewels and a generous dusting of body glitter for an all-out makeover. As for hairstyles, use your straightening irons to recreate the flat, poker-straight locks of the 1990s, and accessorise the look with bandanas, beads, and butterfly clips that are sure to give your clients a hit of nostalgia. For hair that is less eager to lie flat, particularly for days on end, experiment with more durable styles such as braids and Bantu knots.
Go Bold
When it comes to makeup looks for 2022, it really is a case of go bold or go home! In eyeliner trends, over-the-top graphic eyeliner replaces the classic winged look, with French fashion house Dior taking the trend one step further at their Spring/Summer show and presenting white eyeliner as a ground-breaking alternative to the typical brown or black shades.
Smoky eyes teamed with dark grungy lips are also a great way to achieve the daring look that this season is all about. Pair this makeup with dramatic hairstyles like blunt bobs and retro pixie cuts.
Think Fairy
The final hot trend for the 2022 festival season is the ethereal ‘fairy’ look. To achieve that other-worldly glow, combine glazed, dewy skin with glossy lips and add a sprinkle of barely-there glitter and shimmering eye make-up. Complete the pixie look with loose curls accented by floral accessories or a flower crown for a soft, feminine look that will leave clients feeling like a princess.
