Review: Swapping Hotels for Serviced Apartments : We Sample CitySuites II, Manchester

Manchester Serviced Apartment
Manchester Serviced Apartment

Making a trip to the capital of the north and needing a home from home? Then how about staying in a serviced apartment rather than a traditional hotel? We were invited to try the City Suites complex in the heart of Manchester’s shopping district and a stones throw away from the bustling Northern Quarter.

Location

CitySuites II stands proud in the up-and-coming Embankment West area, just across the bridge from bustling Deansgate. On the doorstep, you’ll find neighbours including Harvey Nichols and Selfridges, and the designer stores of New Cathedral Street – all within a five-minute walk.  Whether you’re in town for business or leisure, you’ll find that everything is conveniently close by. There’s a secure car park next door with charging facilities if, like us, you drive an EV. A huge bonus!

Accommodation

The new build two-bedroom apartment was spacious, modern, and impeccably clean. The décor was sleek and stylish, offering a comfortable and homely atmosphere. Our apartment had two, generously sized bedrooms, one with ensuite, and were well-appointed with loads of storage space and good quality cotton bedding ensuring a restful night’s sleep. The large living area was perfect for relaxing after a long day of exploring the city with two sofas and Sky TV, and the fully equipped kitchen was a bonus, making it easy to prepare drinks and meals when we didn’t feel like dining out.

Facilities

Now we didn’t expect this, CitySuites II excels in its range of amenities with an onsite gym, steam room and swimming pool. The 24hr gym was well-equipped with modern machinery, meaning there was no excuse to skip legs day and the steam room and spa pool provided a soothing post workout escape, helping to relax and rejuvenate. The 18m swimming pool was another standout feature – super stylish and ideal for both a morning swim or a leisurely dip in the evening.

Breakfast

If you don’t fancy cooking then there is onsite Embankment Restaurant which you can book a table for breakfast, weekend lunches and evening dinners. With tables available indoors or out, the stylish interior features velvet booth seating, pale woods and cool marble. We enjoyed the Eggs Florentine, jammy poached eggs resting on smashed avocado with spinach on toasted sourdough and draped in a velvety hollandaise sauce. We pimped ours up a little with the addition of sausage and bacon – perfect breakfast! The bottomless coffees and teas added to the laid-back experience and set us up for our travels ahead.

Service

The staff at CitySuites IIwere great. From the friendly wait staff and warm welcome at check-in to the prompt assistance with any requests during our stay, the service was top-notch. They went above and beyond to ensure that we had a comfortable and enjoyable stay.

Overall

We’re converted – we love the flexibility of a serviced apartment. The combination of a prime location, luxurious accommodation, delicious breakfast, and top-tier facilities made CitySuites II an excellent choice for a weekend break. We will definitely be returning on our next trip to Manchester!
